Objectives: Intended for people with strategic responsibilities, Directing Safely helps Owners, Directors and Senior Managers assess and plan the integration of HSE issues within their business. It is designed to provide an awareness of the significance of roles and responsibilities under health and safety legislation and the impact that HSE has on their business.

Course content: 8 Modules:

Module 1 Aims and Objectives
Module 2 Health and Safety Management - good business sense
Module 3 Health and Safety - getting it wrong
Module 4 Health and Safety - getting it right
Module 5 Planning for success
Module 6 People - your most valuable asset
Module 7 How well are you performing?
Module 8 Improving performance

On successful completion of this course delegates should be able to:-

  • Explain the root causes of accidents;
  • Understand the charges of 'manslaughter' and 'corporate killing';
  • Explain the role of directors in health and safety management;
  • Understand the basic principles of the 'Revitalising health and safety' strategy;
  • Understand the main sections of the HSAW etc. Act 1974;
  • Understand the principles of safety management systems;
  • Understand the principles governing the use of workplace precautions, including relevant legislation, the environment and competence issues;
  • Describe the role of various safety professionals within the organisation; and
  • Understand and identify means of active monitoring.
